Project Purpose

As the world continues to advance exponentially with technology, the topic of coexistence becomes increasingly important for future generations who are hyper-connected to the stream of endless ongoings through social media and other instantly-accessible news/media outlets. People are also traveling and relocating more frequently, crossing geographic and cultural borders in search of purpose and connectedness.

With the advent of technology, we are losing our ability to be still, aware, and appreciate all that contributes to this magical experience we call Life. It’s been proven that happiness, peace, and serenity are the result of a sense of purpose and fulfillment. The core problem is that people no longer know how to cut through all the noise to find peace and purpose in the pleasures of simply existing and, more importantly, co-existing.

Be|Longing aims to inspire a sense of spiritual oneness with our planet by displaying the power of sound in mobilizing intelligent systems in nature along with our responsibility to recognize and empower them for the purpose of sustaining ourselves.

Diving Deep into Ocean Acoustics: Unveiling Fragile Soundscapes, Preserving Urgent Ecosystems

What if I told you that Sound travels faster and is louder underwater?

Noise pollution is making whales deaf, killing plankton and scaring away fish from feeding grounds. But is there a way to fix this?

Coral reefs sustain life for 1 billion people around the world, but 90% will be extinct by 2050 if we don’t find a solution now.

Project FAQs

  • The sense of sound plays a crucial role in our lives. It allows us to communicate, understand and connect with others. Sound helps us navigate our environment by providing information about distance, direction, and the location of objects. It alerts us to potential dangers, such as approaching vehicles or sirens. Sound also enriches our experiences, enabling us to appreciate music, enjoy movies, and engage in various forms of entertainment. It contributes to our emotional well-being, with certain sounds evoking memories and feelings. Overall, the sense of sound enhances our perception of the world and facilitates meaningful interaction with our surroundings and fellow human beings.

  • Sound holds immense importance for marine animals. Underwater, where vision is limited, sound becomes their primary mode of communication, facilitating vital interactions such as mating calls and social coordination. It is also crucial for navigation, as sound travels faster and farther in water than in air, aiding in the detection of landmarks and finding food sources. Unfortunately, human-generated noise pollution, from activities like shipping, construction, and sonar use, disrupts these acoustic signals, causing significant harm to marine species. Such disturbances can lead to behavioral changes, habitat displacement, and even physical damage, posing a threat to their survival and the delicate balance of marine ecosystems

  • You and one other participant will be asked to push buttons on a midi controller (this one to be exact!) which launch various sound clips in different musical keys. You will both be wearing headphones which allow you to listen to the other person’s clips. Each clip that you launch will affect visuals that are projected on a 4x4 ft 3D cube that sits between the two of you. Your goal is to try to harmonize with each other and create a music loop in under 5 minutes!

  • You do not need any prior experience with musical instruments or midi controllers to participate! You just need your lovely pair of ears and good vibrations! ☺
